Clinical Investigation of Neonatal Peritonitis

Abstract

|
During the past 4 years, from July, 1972 to August, 1976, we made a clinical investigation on 17 cases of neonatal peritonitis which bad been operated on.
It is a fact that prompt and careful management is required because of the high mortality rate of neonatal peritonitis even though it´s frequency is not common compared with other diseases of neonatal period.
In the period of the flinvestigation in our hospital, the frequency of neonatal peritonitis was 0.26% among the 6489 cases of newborn infant. The etiology was secondary peritonitis due to perforation of gastrointestinal tract except for one case of primary peritonitis. In all cases, the management was performed by surgery. The mortality rate was 52.8%.
